Probably bause you;reomparing Frost with better gear to fire with worse gear. Even at low gear levels, Fireball should outdamage Frostbolt (remember toount ignie in firerits) though fire ales better with gear and is thus superior to frost at higher gear levels. At lower gear levels frostbolt and waterbolt(averaged) togetheran outdamage fireball, but not frostbolt alone. EDIT: Although it made itlearer, Iould not live with my bad grammar.
As mh as I hate tually admitting this, fire WILL out damage frost in a raidinstae situation among equally geared mages. Frost is awesome. I am AaneFrost bause I love the +damage, +intellt, POM, AP, Y Veins….its all fun. I am however looking into respcing into fire, but I justan’t get away from how mh I love frost. If played right frost willomelose to fire, but not surpass it unless the mage that is spc’d fire is just a bad player. If you are going to raid, I would go fire. Tailor your spellfire set and output some major damage. Don’t make the mistake I made and be hardheaded and love frost and now have to put in a lot of time and money to resp my tailoring andraft a whole new outfit. Frost raiding does fine up through Gruul, I am always near the top of the damage meters and my sp is uber mana effient, but I am ready for the uber uber spell hits andrits.
To sum up everyones and answer the OPs questions I’ll toss in a few words. Your right to be seeing more damage dealt at your lvl with frost. There’s really only 3 talents thatause this. Shatter, e Shards, and Frostbite. With the high amount ofrits, higherrit damage, and ability to freeze targets more your DPS should be higher then fire out of boss fights. At around 600 spelldamage though. Youan go 40210 and boost your DPS with fire without relying on shatter. Getting Spell Power will negate e Shards. Therit talents in aanefire trees will boost yourrithae on ALL spells and negate the 50% shatter will give frozen targets. Plus the extra mana you get from the aane tree will help in early boss fights when you don’t have the mana pool yet. Then finally at 950-1000 spell damage deep fire will put out the most DPS. With this mh damage andrit% the dots you will lay on a target will be massive. It’s easy to get 30%rit with T4ish gear. This way you willrit and lay a new DoT on the target before the other one tks off. Your hitting with a 4krit fireball, every 2.5 s with 350 tking every 2 s.

Could you the fire sp you were using prior to level 60, and the frost sp that you useurrently? That will have a big impt on us being able to divine what’s going on. Also, an armory profile would be helpful.
Well, I think the big reason is that Frost is literally ALL aboutrits. With shatter and being able to freeze targets in ple and then pr more shatterrits… and the rit damage talent, Frost has some potential to be very nasty in pvp and world pve. The biggest problem with Frost in raids and sh…. is that bosses are immune to being frozen. You’ve lost a BIG BIG BIGhunk of yourrit potential (and makes e lae aomplete waste essentially). Also most bosses are immune to (I forget prise names of efftsause they’re all so similar with frost) having their movement slowed. Frost is all aboutontrol of the mob for survivability and with thatontrol gaining high burst damage withrits. Ian fairly easily 4-5 shot mobs now with e lae. Frostbolt x2 or 3… frost nova…. frostbolt and elae as it ends to get shatter possibility on both… and the mob is dead. I try that on a boss and I won’t do half the damage I do on a normal mob bause of boss immunity. If they removed those immunities from bosses, you’d probably see a LOT more raiding frost mages, not that youan’t do pretty well as frost as it is now, but generally a fire or fireaane mage will out-dps a frost mage.

toh of weakness is great, prs All those shadow goodies, hurts them a tiny bit AND it makes them do less damage to you :3

Hi I made a priest and dided to go shadow bause its the best way to lvl and i heard ian heal well in shadow before the end game instaes. This brings me to a few questions. 1.Is it true that ian heal well in shadow(and i dont mean instaes like wailingavernes,i mean instaes like maraudon) 2.If i dide i like DPSing more than healing will i still be of any use to 5man groups or will i have a very hard time finding a group(this question iluding the end game 5man instaes like shadow labs)? 3.And my final question for you tailors.Do you romend Primal mooloth tailoring or shadowweave tailoring?This oourseoernng my previous questions will i or will i not be able to stay in shadow if i want to go to instaes. You mean re, notlass ;P Undead are definitely best for PvP, with WotF and Devouring Plague. Both of those have limited use in 5-mans and raids (WotF being better for healing if you get feared, Plague better for a shadow priest for some extra damage). annibalize helps downtime a bit in both PvE and PvP. The elves (while I don’t have one) appear to be better for PvE. The extra silee is good everywhere (PvP, soloing, 5-man trash) and the two abilities for extra mana are also eellent for 5-mans and raids, espially for a shadow priest who struggles with mana. Personally, as an endgame shadow priest, I wish Iould trade my undead for a blood elf. For PvP orasual play, I think Undead are probably the way to go. Like you said, though, it’s reallylose.
the only time the rialsame to play with me was for some rp and feeling XD undead shadow priest (troll was prettyool too) my lowbie Blood elf is Despiline -shrugs- it just seems to fit ^^
Undead simply bause I’m guilty of beginning too many sentees with “LOL” and the BE laugh makes me want to puh myself in temple. Anyhow my adve for all of these questions is just to pk the re you like the look of best.
im an UD priest, wotf is so friggin sweet, DP is insane shadow dmg = insane healing from VE. toh of weakness is lame but easy shadow dmg…..though ive never played a BE, i really think they are the fotm with justoming out. lame dae, lame rials, pink flamingo mounts and the guys look likehks. there i said it. ^-^

di will get you.. well.. nowhere It’s ment as a support tree (even if it lks support ). If you want to tually do some damage, go for Surge of Light: like this. Then max Spirit Tap (to solo without stopping). Then take meditation. Then Divine Spirit. Then maybe some Foe Of Will, but you are level 70 already when you get that far. Or aim to get Mind Flay also
I’d agree, get some points in Holy before Di. Di is support and really doesn’t offer a lot on its own. For now, I’d suggest a slighthange in the build Pilgrim offered (here Basally max Spirit Tap instead of Improved Shield. After that, I’d suggest Silent Resolve, Inner Fus, Meditation, and eventually work up to something resembling this (whh will require a resp). Good healing, good burst damage, mages love you for PI.
I just respced to DisHoly at 70 and took Surge of Light to help me rep grind but honestly I think it may be broken I don’t ever seem to get the freeinstaast.
Well, keep in mind it only prs off half of yourrits, so if you’re running a 5%rit rate you’ll get one every 40asts ofritapable spells. It’s also bugged last I heard; it’s not free butanrit, potentially giving a string of SoL prs in a row for some insane burst damage.

With SoL: been using it for some times, and it’s great, even if it’s bugged. The first one you get is free. If itrits and prs itself (this is the bug), then itosts mana, but it’s instant. The longesthain i got was 3. Holy Firerit, Sol, Sol, Sol. That’s 7k damage I’m running with 19%rithae on holy. In instaes, due to the ft that PoHrits often, i get one every PoH i make I’ve done some runs where they already had a healer, so i get there as holy DPS and off healer. It worked great

In the talent dertion it says “after killing a target that gives experiee.” So, sie im a PvP shadow priest, i skped it, sie you don’t get xp from killing players. But I’ve seen in several guides that you should “max spirit tap to get bk mana when spamming MF on people” And if it does, I personally don’t think it would be of mh use in pvp sie it only takes efft when you kill a target. Whh will happen, but maybe not enough to spend 5 points in it. On the other hand, im new to priests so iould be wrong. Thanks for any help

yep, and it prs at 70 even after you’re no longer gaining exp in PvE. I believe the tual wording is “a target that would normally grant exp.”
Yes, spirit tap works in PvP, however, it is often very hard to get the killing blow on that enemy (whh is required for Spirit Tap to tivate). This is espially true when someone is being fus fired. Even in the later levels, when you get the instant Shadow Word: Death it’s still hard to get that killing blow sometimes due to lag, slow fingers, suddenrit from the mage, e. Lkily, spirit tap is a very solid talent for PvE, so it’s definitely a keeper.

I just keep my healing gear up-to-date so Ian main heal with a bit of bkup if I need to. Wouldn’t even both trying in heros and raids, though. Youonvied me, I’m slowly putting together a guide to the best shadow priest gear at level 70. Anyone know if Ian get item links in the text (like on the news, where it pops up in a window), or do I just have to link to the page? I’ve noted lately in Generalhat that more and more ppl are looking for Shadow Priests spifally. I think bause wean bring VE VT and Misery to the fight. VE VT to help keep a fairly steady stream of mana and health flowing and bump other PriestsWarlksMages damage output an additional 5% with Misery. As a 66 shadow priest I love the idea of being asked to do instaes bause I’m shadow. Often pre- I would get “oh nevermind” when I say that I’m shadow after being asked to join. I have a few OL greens (… of the Prophet and Physian items) and quest rewards that give me about +550 healing whh helps when I do go as a main healer or off healer. In addition to the +healing, the items bump up mana pool by about 1500 and my spirit byt about 70, giving me the ability to heal longer. I also use a modalledlosetGnome that allows me to easily swap from my damage gear to healing gear when I find I need to swih roles for the good of the group. I don’t for a sond think Ian main heal level 70 instaes or heros, but I do think that I would be able to off-heal out of shadowform and keep the party “topped off” with VEVT up and spamming SW:P, MB and MF while in shadowform. Aggro is and has always been a big issue for priests. Just let the main tank build up a little aggro for a few sonds as youast VTVESW:P, then wait a tk or 2 then start blasting away with MB MF. It should minimize the risk of pulling. Funny how it turned out. I hit 70 during the last day of Mah. Did quest leading to karazhan key and turned HolyDi. But theah is iam less wanted by peers for instaes now lol, remembered a druid asked me toome to mh, and his response to me turning Holy wasn’t as i thought, he tually perfered me staying Shadow and was surprised that I respced quite fast. Nethertheless we still did mh but then realm maintainae had to ruin our wonderful group.
I <3 Isfreak. I really think that if you have the time and the energy you should write up a strtured Shadow Priest gear guide and have it added to the Shadow Priest Stky. Or, make your own stky :) Either way, it would be ne to give people an idea of what to look for and maybe a ple to diuss the nuaes between different pies, like whh ones are your best return if you need more +hit, if it's better to go more +dmg instead of getting rit, how mh stamina you really need for 5-mans, heros, or raids, e. I haven't played thisharter enough to tkle that myself, although I do have a tailoring guide in the works. I think I'll stk with that projt for now :)
Glad you asked this question, I had a rough time last night inrypts (my fault for not moving fast enough on the flares) but I am tired of people being disappointed in my healing when I am 100% shadow. I’m going to stay shadow,an’t imagine being otherwise and peoplean just deal.

I’m shadow for a reason, stking me in the main healing spot when I’m not the right sp and don’t have a great healing set of gear just gimps the group and makes things no fun for anyone involved. I say if you’re shadow, only join a group if they are fully aware of this ft and youan stay shadow the whole time. Or, if you’re going in with a great guild group with an off healer, then youan probably heal relatively stress free. The game is supposed to be fun, so if shadow is fun for you, do it to the best of your ability, don’t heal just bause people say you should.

Gear, my spialty I really should throw up a thread about shadow priest gear and try and get it stkied. First off, the really easy stuff. Get to the AH, find yourself a Flawless Wand of Shadow Power. Wah that AH like a hawk ;P Also,loak of the Blk Void (an hour of farming tops) and Khorium Band of Shadow (again, an hour, though the mats here are usuallyheap enough it’s better to get them off the AH). Finally, 15 Hellfire PvP tokens and go to Zangarmarsh for your Mark of Defiae. Spellstrike Pants are bar none the best shadow priest pants in the game right now, though personally I’m taking tier 4 helm over the spellstrike hood (partly for the -2% threat meta gem Ian throw in there). I wouldn’t bother with Battlast. Also, be sure to throw the right ehants and gems on your stuff. Myst Spellthread on your pants, Inrtion of Diline (hope you’re Aldor ) on your shoulders, and pretty mh all Runed Living Rubies in skets (only eeptions Ian see are dmghit and dmgint gems from Heros, and the very rare instae where a different gem gives a sket bonus that will total higher than all +9dmg gems). Sond is quests. Some of the big ones are ahain in Shadowmoon for the Evoker’s Helm of Sond Sight (among the highest pure +dmg, andrit for PvP), Natasha’s Aane Filament from a quest in Blade’s Edge, and possibly Netherwing Soerer’sharm (though personally I think the healer’s one is worth pking up, as it far oulasses other easily-attainable offhands). Next big thing is Kara key, and you might as well grab gear from the instaes you must do while there so as to minimize This means Shadow Labs, then Aatraz and Steamvaults, then Blk Morass (Old Hillsbrad if you haven’t done it yet). From just those four instaes, youan get some eellent gear: Shadow Lab quest gives Shattrath Wraps (and jumpers while you’re waiting to get Shadoweave Boots), and from bosses Jaedenfire Gloves of Annihilation and Broh of Heightened Potential, as well as several ne pies of stamina gear for a stamina set (Gruul and similar fight, as well as PvP – Wand of the Netherwing, Robes of the Oblivion), plus the re for your Spellstrike Pants. Steamvaults has Sash of Serpentra, and Aatraz the Netherore’sontrol Rod (+hit wand if you need it). Blk Morass has Mantle of Three Terrors and Khadgar’s Kilt of Abjuration if you’re a ways off from yourrafted pies, as well as Star-Heart Lamp. ongrats, now youan get into Kara After that, I’d get some Mh and Bot runs in, mainly for Bloodfyre Robes of Annihilation (until you get Shadoweave) and Bangle of Endless Blessing. After the Kara key quest, your biggest thing is Hero instaes. Run the top instaes in eh ple till you hit Revered and get the gear you want. My suggestion is Steamvaults first (easiest and seems to be the heros people are looking for the most), followed by Shadow Labs. You eventually need to hit Exalted with Shadow Labs for your Gavel of Unearthed Srets, whh should probably be your biggest task. After that, there’s some eellent gear from heros, espially Mana-Tombs (Glyph-Lined Sash andobalt Band of Tyrigosa), and for stamina sets, Underbog (Argussianompass and Demonfang Ritual Helm). Get your Orb of the Soul-Eater (25 hero badges) and on of the Silverreent (41 badges). I’dhk around (wowhead has an eellent loot page under eh dungeon zone) to see whh gear you want, sie many items are sidegrades by the time you get to Heros. Have fun

Yea, I just figured out part of the aggro problem. Did theaulations for another thread – aggro on my high-damage rotation (SWP, VT, VE, MF, SWDMB every 9 sonds), I easily break 1.6k threat per SOND, and that’s in a raid situation where I’ll be doing less threat (assumed 5 tks of VT and 2 VE, versus 3-4 VT and 2-5+ VE in many 5-mans). I knew it was high, I had no idea it was THAT high. Wish I knew a 70 pally Iould run with >.< I'd definitely mah your tailoring sp to your sp. Shadoweave is bar none the best shadow gear in the game pending Blk Temple's release; same for PMooloth for healing. Tier 5 is NO mah for those two sets.
lsfreak- Yeah I know my gear is horrible. After I got to OL I took a new job and I work a ton more hours now. Ian only play about 2 hrs a night so I never really had time to hit instaes from 60+. After doing RampsBlood Furne I didn’t do any instaes until… well now. I’ve been looking through atlas tryin to find out where to get my new gear so that’s my next step.
Well, if you want any help or suggestions, just PM me. During beta I made a 17-page word dument with every pies of gear; ended up with most of the nameslations and the general stats memorized, so I should be able to point you in the right dirtion if you’re stk on something XD [thread hijk]
Well, after some thinking and looking through gear lists toompare Shadoweave and Primal Mooloth sets to instae drops, I’ve dided that I’m going to stay shadow for now and go with Shadoweave tailoring. The pies of that set are just mh better than anything else out there for a Shadow Priest. I figure Ian pk up some instae healing gear later on if I dide tohange sp. Other priests do without Primal Mooloth, soan I if itomes down to it Now, question is what pies I should be gunning for in other slots. Any thoughts on the BattlastSpellstrike sets? Or is there anythingomparable that won’t take so mh gold to get. Planning on finishing all quests before seriously hitting up instaes so I have no idea what gear drops where (need to gold to finish leveling tailoring and ehanting). I will be doing a seah and making a list for myself oe exams are over later this month, but until I have time to sit down and do that, does anyone have a pie of gear or two off the top of their head they think is amazing for a shadow priest? Thanks for the replies so far, they really helped. And,razy as it sounds, I found a few dent on the O-Boards that made me realize how amazing my shadow priestan be if I find the right group of people to instae with.
